Announcing Sparks Meet-Up 2023: Fostering Connections in Mental Health

Presenting Sparks Meet-Up 2023: Fostering Connections in Global Mental Health, organised by the SHM Foundation, Segal Family Foundation and Fondation d'Harcourt in Nairobi, Kenya, from September 18 - September 20.

For three days, 30+ stakeholders in mental health - ranging from community-based mental health organisations, funders and philanthropists - will be coming together to collaborate, share knowledge and brainstorm some of the most pressing issues in Global Mental Health.

What was the thinking behind Sparks Meet-Up 2023?

The idea for the event was born when evaluations conducted by Ember Mental Health as part of partnerships with community-based mental health organisations revealed that many networking events can often feel exclusionary and inaccessible for those working at the grassroots. Through a further detailed participatory survey from organisations to understand their needs and expectations, this event was designed with the aim of breaking barriers between organisers and participants and encouraging the formation of equal and mutually beneficial networks of rich discussions in a relaxed environment.

The organisers set out to create a space that would spark real connections and inspire conversations about topics that really mattered to these initiatives, which emerged to be:

1. Wellbeing

Wellbeing is pivotal for organisational longevity and is rarely discussed- making it an important theme of discussion at the event.

2. Sustainability

Organisations wanted to explore various strategies for sustainability and responsible resource management, so that they can continue to do the work they do – for the long run.

3. Impact

Organisations were keen to discuss the question of how best to measure and communicate impact in mental health, sharing their best practices and innovative methods.
