Celebrating Compassion, Resilience, and Innovation in Mental Health: Launch of Bloomsbury Photo Exhibition

We are excited to announce that our photo exhibition, Shifting Perspectives: Visual Tales of ‘Unexpected’ Mental Health Champions, is now live at the Bloomsbury Festival in London!

Can’t make it to London? Step into a world of visual storytelling through our online exhibition.

This remarkable showcase highlights powerful, culturally rooted approaches to mental health care championed by nine Ember Innovators from across the globe, ranging from South Africa to Ecuador, Indonesia to Sri Lanka, among others. It’s a celebration of resilience, community action, and human connection. The exhibition features stunning photographs captured by award-winning photographer Elizabeth Dalziel, many taken remotely via FaceTime- ACUFA, Ahumuza Centre, Church of Uganda - Kisiizi Hospital, CAFS, Girls For Girls Africa Mental Health Foundation, Huertomanías, KPSI, Positive Konnections, Phola and Project Phoenix.

Why did we embark on this project? While mental health can be complex, we aim to showcase the hope found in these initiatives and the dedicated individuals driving change. These champions tackle the mental health crisis through customised context-specific care, unique methodologies, and a human approach, alongside conversations, acts of kindness, and courageous steps. Each photo not only tells a story but also invites you into their world, reminding us that unity in kindness makes anything possible.

The exhibition seeks to disrupt the stigma and misconceptions surrounding mental health, offering a fresh perspective on the transformative potential when we come together.

The launch event, held at Curzon, Bloomsbury on World Mental Health Day on October 10, brought together a diverse audience of Ember innovator team members, photographers, media friends, creatives, co-funders, and like-minded philanthropists.

Co-founder and Director of Ember Mental Health, Anna Kydd, and Professor Maurice Birotti, Co-Founder and Co-Chair of The SHM Foundation, welcomed all the guests.

Photographer Elizabeth Dalziel and members from Ember Innovator teams such as KPSI and Project Phoenix shared their experiences of the FaceTime photoshoots and their journey at the grassroots.

Join us from October 10 to October 27, 2024, at Brunswick Square Gardens, London to explore this inspiring exhibition—a testament to the incredible potential of community-driven mental health initiatives! We extend our gratitude to The Schooner Foundation, The SHM Foundation, Vitol Foundation and Bloomsbury Festival for their generous support in bringing this exhibition to life.
